Each item in our select range of lambswool baby blankets, knitwear and home accessories is knitted with nostalgia. Time-old artisan techniques and traditional stitches are brought back to life in our confident, contemporary colours and bold, beautiful designs.
Mini McGhee is dedicated to celebrating dwindling handicraft skills and reviving local industry. So every piece is either hand knitted by homeworkers or made by a local manufacturer. Only the finest British yarn is chosen to swaddle newborns in softness and to endure the years of wear and washing that lie ahead.
Made in Scotland and enjoyed in homes across the world, Mini McGhee inspires a return to the days when cherished baby items were handed down – brother to sister, niece to nephew, family to family. Begin a new tradition today and make granny proud.
Unique gift bags fashioned from vintage textiles and gift boxes are available for most items . The Mini McGhee collection also includes cushion covers and laundry and shoe bags that repurpose embroidered fabrics from yesteryear into modern and attractive accessories for the home.
In the Beginning....
Mini McGhee owes its name to founder, knitwear and textiles designer Nicola McGhee, whose career was born in Glasgow and came of age in New York.
Following her graduation from Glasgow School of Art - where she won the prestigious Newbury Medal, Nicola studied for her Masters at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design. Nicola's originality soon won her recognition in London and overseas, and in 2000 she was recruited to work for a leading menswear label in Manhattan.
Nicola remained in New York for seven years, moving on to occupy senior posts at household names like Kenneth Cole and Gap. Her heart remained in Scotland, however, and she and her architect husband made the decision to come home to Glasgow following the birth of their first child in 2007.
Mini McGhee was born soon after, in 2009, when Nicola spotted a gap in the market for contemporary knitted baby blankets. Returning to the city where she feels most creative has paid off for both Nicola and her loyal customers: the Mini McGhee collection now extends to baby and children's wear and accessories for adults and the home.
